Council Purpose & Goals

The purpose of the LGBTQ+ Workplace Alliance Council is to help raise the visibility for the LGBTQ+ Workplace Alliance Program and make recommendations for impactful events, programs, awards, and other activities that bring value for Chamber Impact Partners and generate support for the program.  

The Council plays a vital role in engagement and retention of new partners.  In addition, the Council is focused on engaging current Chamber Impact Partners to maximize their partnership and growing existing support for the Chamber’s primary mission of promoting LGBTQ+ economic inclusion.

The goals of the LGBTQ+ Workplace Alliance Council include:  
  • Increase the number of new Impact Partners through outreach to colleagues at prospective companies.
  • Help the Chamber Team increase investment levels in the Chamber through increased membership level, event sponsorships and other engagement opportunities.
  • Promote connection of investment from Impact Partners to support of LGBTQ+ small businesses and overall community through the work of the Chamber.
  • Set benchmarks for measuring the impact of the LGBTQ+ Workplace Alliance.
  • Support the development of the annual calendar of LGBTQ+ Workplace Alliance events.

Council Member Roles and Duties

The LGBTQ+ Workplace Alliance Council Co-Chairs are appointed by the Chamber President & CEO and will primarily engage with the Director of Corporate Relations and Chamber President & CEO. 

Membership of the Council should be representative of a diverse range of the Chamber’s Impact Partner industries, including but not limited to: 
  • Banking & Finance
  • Technology & Science
  • Education & Healthcare
  • Oil, Gas, & Energy
  • Manufacturing & Supply Chain
  • Hospitality
  • Legal

Council members will commit to: 
  • Attend 90% of all council meetings, scheduled quarterly*
  • Be an active participant in assisting the Council/Chamber in meeting goals and objectives
  • Engage in other Council activities relevant to meeting goals and objectives
  • Be visible at Chamber events to promote Impact Partnership and engagement with the Chamber 
  • Participate in LGBTQ+ Workplace Alliance programming and events

Terms

The Term of Service for the Council will be 1 year (January 1, 2026 - December 31, 2026), with the potential to renew for 1 year extended to members in good standing with the opportunity to serve two one-year terms consecutively. Service is subject to employment status and Impact Partner membership remaining in good standing with the Greater Houston LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce.  During tenure on the Council, employees must maintain a leadership role within their B/ERG (exceptions may be granted in cases where leadership role term ends before Council term).
