About the Venue
Where History Meets a Decade of ImpactOnce the heart of Houston’s U.S. mail system, POST is a landmark reimagined. Originally built in 1934 and expanded into a state-of-the-art USPS headquarters that opened in 1961, the building served as a critical hub for commerce, connection, and civic life in downtown Houston. Designed during a pivotal moment in American history, the structure reflected the era’s ambition, resilience, and belief in progress—values that still echo throughout the space today.
In 1984, the building was renamed in honor of Barbara Jordan, a groundbreaking African American and lesbian woman who became the first Black woman from the South elected to the U.S. Congress. A proud Houstonian, civil rights icon, and unparalleled orator, Jordan’s legacy of courage, integrity, and public service is deeply woven into this place. Her words—“I belong to you”—continue to resonate as a powerful reminder of leadership rooted in community.
Now thoughtfully redeveloped by Lovett Commercial, POST has been transformed into a dynamic cultural destination—preserving its historic character while breathing new life into a space once built to bring people together. It is a fitting setting to celebrate the Chamber’s 10-Year Anniversary: honoring where we’ve been, recognizing those who paved the way, and looking boldly toward the future we are building together.
