A Decade of Impact: Reflections from Co-Founder Gary Wood
At our 10-Year Anniversary Reception, we had the opportunity to hear from someone who was there at the very beginning — Chamber Co-Founder Gary Wood.
Ten years ago, before there was momentum, before there were 500+ members, before there was proof of concept — there was conviction. There was a belief that the region’s LGBTQ+ business community deserved visibility, representation, and a seat at the table where economic decisions are made.
Gary captured that spirit powerfully in his remarks:
It’s an honor to stand with you tonight as we celebrate 10 years of the Greater Houston LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce—a decade of courage, progress, and community.
Ten years ago, Tammi and I came together to form this Chamber that was built on a simple but powerful belief: that authenticity and opportunity should go hand in hand.
In today’s world, three values matter more than ever.
First, visibility. When LGBTQ+ businesses are seen, they don’t just survive—they lead and thrive. Visibility creates possibility, and possibility changes lives.
Second, economic empowerment. When we support LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs, we build independence, stability, and generational impact. We don’t just create businesses—we create pathways for influence.
And third, community. Because none of us succeeds alone. This Chamber proves that when we stand together, we amplify each other’s voices, open doors, and ensure no one has to walk the journey alone.
Tonight, we celebrate not just the past 10 years—but the future we are building together. A future defined by courage, fueled by opportunity, and strengthened by pride.
Congratulations on 10 incredible years—and here’s to the next decade of impact.

Gary’s words remind us that the Chamber was never just about networking. It was about building infrastructure for belonging. It was about ensuring that authenticity and opportunity could exist side by side in our region’s economy.
Visibility.
Economic empowerment.
Community.
These principles were true ten years ago — and they remain the foundation for the decade ahead.
As we look forward, we do so grounded in purpose and strengthened by our members, partners, sponsors, and leaders who have helped carry this vision forward.

We are deeply grateful for Gary’s steady leadership, his unwavering belief in this vision from day one, and his continued dedication as Co-Founder — helping lay the foundation for a Chamber that has grown stronger, bolder, and more impactful with each passing year.
