Chamber Chat with Marilyn Jordan | MarFran Cleaning

The Greater Houston LGBT Chamber of Commerce is committed to helping tell the stories of our members. This is a regular series profiling some of those businesses. 

Launched in August 2006, MarFran Cleaning LLC grew from a small company servicing the Houston area to a nationwide operation. The business specializes in full service janitorial cleaning for commercial clients ranging from retail stores and schools to hospitals and government offices. Today, MarFran also offers landscaping and lawn care services to its clients. The company was one of the inaugural members of the LGBT Chamber. We spoke with co-founder and managing partner Marilyn J. Jordan (she|her|hers). 

Briefly talk about what led you to start your company.

Entrepreneurship has been a lifelong dream of ours with a special interest in clean living. After researching the market, the demand was there, in the government and commercial sector, and that led us to pursue our interest.

What do you think sets your business apart from the competition? 
We pride ourselves on complete customer satisfaction. Our work is not complete until our customers' needs we meet.

Why did you join the chamber? 
To open new opportunities and network.

What are the positive aspects of running a business in Houston? 
The diversity, the size and the number of opportunities.

What would make things easier to run a business here? 
If there was more oversight on diversity classification or a tracking system to prevent some companies from monopolizing the market.

What's your favorite thing to do in town when you're not running the company? 
Eat!

Barbecue or Mexican, and where do you go for it? 
Barbecue and my favorites are Pappas and Killen's. 

Anything else you want to mention about your business?
We are so proud of the growth that we have accomplished and excited to celebrate 11 years in business.
