Greater Houston LGBTQ Chamber hosts holiday food drive for LGBTQ+ youth
Officials with the Greater Houston LGBT Chamber of Commerce will bring back the group's annual holiday food drive Nov. 30, this time in support of Tony's Place and LGBTQ+ youth.
Officials with the Greater Houston LGBT Chamber of Commerce will bring back the group's annual holiday food drive Nov. 30, this time in support of Tony's Place and LGBTQ+ youth.
Founded in 2016 in Montrose, Tony's Place serves as a drop-in center for young LGBTQ+ people, assisting with basic needs, case management, support services, community engagement and advocacy, according to a Nov. 3 news release from the LGBTQ Chamber announcing the food drive.
“Our kids need a space to go for support, food, and supplies that is free from judgment.” Chamber President Tammi Wallace said in a statement. "We’re grateful for our community and know they’ll step up in a big way this holiday season to support our LGBTQ+ Youth.”
Houstonians can participate in the drive by bringing food and supplies to a dropoff point at Eureka Heights—941 W. 18th St., Houston—between 4-7 p.m. Nov. 30. The following supplies are in need:
- Canned and boxed food items
- Bottled water
- Deodorant
- Sunscreen
- Bug Spray
- Chapstick
- Shampoo and conditioner
- Brushes and combs
- Edge control products
- Bonnets and durags
- Belts
- Shoes
- Underwear, tucking underwear and bras
- Jackets and hoodies
- Chest binders
- Disposable plates, bowls and cups
- Paper towels
- Toilet paper
- First aid kits
Financial donations can also be made virtually at any time on the chamber's website.
