Trump's DEI ban impacts major LGBTQ+ event in Houston
According to an email provided to KHOU 11 News, the Federal Reserve Bank said it could no longer host the event to comply with the order.
HOUSTON — One of President Donald Trump’s executive orders banning DEI programs appears to have created a shakeup for a large LGBTQ+ business event in Houston.
The Greater Houston LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce said it was forced to change venues for its THRIVE Small Business Summit & Matchmaker after learning the Federal Reserve Bank on Allen Parkway could no longer host the event.
“As you can imagine, it floored me,” Tammi Wallace, co-founder, president and CEO of the Chamber.
She said she got an email Monday night from Federal Reserve staff.
The THRIVE event offers over 100 small business owners, supplier diversity professionals and LGBTQ+ resource groups the chance to network and learn how to grow their business.
Wallace said the initial email was “vague” and she asked for clarification. An email from Federal Reserve staff cited President Trump’s executive orders related to banning DEI initiatives.
