HOUSTON, TX (August 29, 2022) – The Greater Houston LGBT Chamber of Commerce and Chamber Foundation announced a formal collaboration with TransCanWork, a leading organization focused on supporting transgender, gender diverse and intersex (TGI) job seekers and employers committed to diversifying their workforce.
The organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a commitment to work together and promote joint efforts around programming and more. The MOU outlines the commitment to partner in supporting TGI job seekers and employers committed to inclusive recruitment and hiring as well as the respective missions of each organization.
As part of the collaboration launch, the Chamber and Chamber Foundation are partnering with TransCanWork on the upcoming EMPOWER! Career Fair focused on the state of Texas. The Career Fair will be hosted virtually by TransCanWork on September 28, 2022, via the state-of-the-art platform, Brazen. EMPOWER! is one of the only virtual hiring events of its kind, aimed exclusively at economically empowering the TGI community by directly connecting TGI job seekers with employers who are committed to transforming their workplaces so TGI people can succeed at all levels.
The Chamber and Chamber Foundation are committed to increasing support for the community focused on addressing economic gaps that are systemic for the LGBTQ+ community in the region.
“This collaboration fully aligns with the Chamber and Foundation’s goal to expand support for the transgender, gender diverse and intersex community,” said Tammi Wallace, Co-Founder, President & CEO. “This partnership underscores the Chamber and Chamber Foundation’s goals to empower the LGBTQ+ community, including the TGI community, through access to jobs and inclusive employers including our host of member businesses and Corporate Partners.”
While the national unemployment rate has dropped to 3.9%, TGI people experience unemployment at four times the rate of the general population. TransCanWork is a leading and well-respected trans-led national organization committed to addressing employment gaps for the TGI community.
"TransCanWork is incredibly excited to establish a partnership with the Greater Houston LGBT Chamber of Commerce and Chamber Foundation and their work to help improve the lives of our transgender, gender diverse, and intersex community members within the state of Texas,” said Lexi Adsit, Executive Director, TransCanWork. “With this Texas focused career fair coming up on September 28th, it is our hope and ambition to begin pairing under-hired and overlooked candidates within jobs that can become their careers."
