Greater Houston LGBT Chamber Statement on Supreme Court’s Decision to Overturn Roe V. Wade
The Greater Houston LGBT Chamber of Commerce stands opposed to the Supreme Court decision undermining reproductive rights with the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
HOUSTON, TX (June 24, 2022) – The Greater Houston LGBT Chamber of Commerce stands opposed to the Supreme Court decision undermining reproductive rights with the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. Body autonomy is a human right. This decision is an invasion of the personal lives of millions of Americans.
This deplorable decision emboldens anti-LGBTQ+ legislators and will only heighten their attacks on the LGBTQ+ community and other marginalized communities.
Repeatedly, we see anti-LGBTQ+ legislators and legislation, in our own state, who seek to undermine and strip away personal freedoms from Americans related to reproductive rights, same-sex marriage and other human rights that should be fundamental for all Americans.
The continued attacks from the leadership in Texas undercuts the ability of our state to attract businesses, diverse talent and tourism that is crucial to ensure our economy thrives.
Now is the time the time double down on the work ahead to advocate for fundamental rights for every American. Now is the time for action through the voting booth, community engagement and making sure our voices are heard. Access to these personal freedoms is not only a human right but an economic imperative. The Chamber is committed in our work to advocate for these all of these human rights on behalf of the LGBTQ+ community and other marginalized communities.
