STATEMENT FROM GREATER HOUSTON LGBTQ+ CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
On the U.S. Supreme Court’s Decision to Decline Revisiting Marriage Equality
November 10, 2025
The Greater Houston LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce acknowledges today’s decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to decline to hear a case that sought to overturn the landmark ruling guaranteeing marriage equality nationwide. This outcome brings relief to millions of LGBTQ+ people and families across the country who deserve the freedom to love and build their lives without government interference.
However, while this decision is welcome news, it does not signal an end to the ongoing attacks on LGBTQ+ rights. Legislatures across the country, including Texas, and actions from the current Administration, continue to target our community’s freedoms, safety, and dignity. Our fundamental rights should never be subject to political debate or legal reinterpretation. The ability to marry the person you love is a human right, not a bargaining chip.
“While the Court’s decision is a moment of relief, we cannot ignore the broader reality: LGBTQ+ rights are under sustained and coordinated attack,” said Tammi Wallace, Co-Founder, President & CEO of the Greater Houston LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce. “No one should wake up every day wondering what right might be stripped away next or whether their family will be protected under the law. The stress and uncertainty our community continues to face is unacceptable. We deserve to live, work, and thrive free from fear, and we will continue to stand together to protect the progress we have fought so hard to achieve.”
The Chamber remains steadfast in our commitment to advancing economic opportunity, visibility, and power for the LGBTQ+ community. We will continue to work alongside our members, partners, and allies to push back against discrimination, strengthen our collective voice, and protect the fundamental rights of every LGBTQ+ person and family.
