Texas LGBTQ Chambers of Commerce Legislative Advocacy Day
Austin – The Texas LGBTQ Chambers of Commerce, a joint effort by the Austin, Houston, North Texas, and San Antonio LGBTQ Chambers of Commerce, will descend on the Texas Capitol on Valentine’s Day, February 14th, to remind Texas lawmakers that Business is Business in the Lone Star State.
Chamber members from across the state will participate and will meet with their representatives to show their support for a legislative session that focuses on business issues, and legislation that keeps Texas open and competitive for business.
“LGBTQ+ Chamber members are small business owners and employees that love living and working in Texas,” said Austin Chamber CEO Tina Cannon. “We are visiting the Capitol on Valentine’s Day to introduce our members to their representatives and encourage our lawmakers to refrain from implementing discriminatory legislation that will have a negative impact on not only our business community, but the entire Texas economy.”
Chamber Members will also be advocating in support of a soon-to-be filed bill that will add LGBTQ+ owned businesses to the “historically underutilized business” category and create more opportunity for LGBTQ+ owned business to bid on and receive government contracts.
“Houston was the first city in Texas to establish the LGBTQ+ business category at the city level,” said Houston LGBTQ+ Chamber CEO Tammi Wallace. “We want to expand this opportunity to the state level and have partnered with the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) to utilize their LGBTBE® Certification to verify LGBTQ+ owned business and ensure they have an equal opportunity for government contracts.”
Leadership and Chamber members will be available for media interviews throughout the day. Please reach out if you would like to talk to a Chamber leader or member participating in the advocacy day.
