Established in 1994, OutSmart is Houston’s award-winning magazine serving the gay and lesbian community. Published monthly, OutSmart covers local and national news, politics, health, arts and entertainment, food and dining, and issues affecting the LGBTQ audience. OutSmart has a high profile in the gay community through local involvement, partnerships, and its website, OutSmartMagazine.com
OutSmart was voted “Nation’s Best Local Magazine” by the Vice Versa Gay Press Awards. The Houston Press Club has presented OutSmart with many Lone Star Awards in recognition of its journalistic excellence. OutSmart has been named “Best Local Publication in Houston” by the Houston Press for four consecutive years (2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009).
Entering into our 33th year of publication in February 2026, OutSmart is free and distributed through in Houston and surrounding areas, including Galveston, Beaumont, and College Station, and across the United States by subscription. OutSmart is also distributed at select sites in Texas cities, including Austin, Brownsville, Corpus Christi, Dallas, El Paso, and San Antonio.
